Maarten Geurts
Postdoc

Maarten Geurts is a molecular biologist with strong interest in genome engineering. During his Master studies, Maarten undertook an internship under joined supervision of Prof. George Church at Harvard Medical School and Prof. David R. Liu at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. Here he saw the potential of CRISPR and wanted to use this powerful genome editing tool in more complex model systems. Thus, after finishing his Master’s in 2017 (cum laude), he joined the laboratory of Prof. Hans Clevers at the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht to apply CRISPR tools to human adult stem cell-derived organoids. His main focus is now to both scale up genome engineering technologies as well as make them more generally applicable across model systems.
